The Everyman presented a rehearsed reading of Lex Talionis (A Tale of Vengeance & Feathers), by Liam Heylin, as part of Play It by Ear, a programme of shows for The Everyman stage and available on live audio broadcast.
‘If I told ya to jump off a buildin’ would ya?’
‘That’s different, we’re jumpin’ off buildin’s all day long!’
Hugh’s a rook with chicks comin’. Mooney’s a younger rook whose new friend Max is not what they seem. Dónie’s a magpie, he’s bad news. After a vicious murder, one of them is out for blood. There will be vengeance.
That’s what the weird Latin title means – the law of retaliation, an eye for an eye, like.
Written by the seriously funny Liam Heylin (Love, Peace and Robbery, Hung Juror), the play is about savage craic on the streets of Cork.
★★★★ “…you should see Wandering Star’s production, a high-wire concept given gritty argot and excellent performances to really make it fly.” – The Irish Times
