Fíonna Hewitt-Twamley is a Dublin-born actor. She began her stage career in the early 90s following a chance meeting with Director Denis Keane, brother of the acclaimed Irish writer John B. Keane. Mr Keane spotted what he called a ‘stage presence’ in the young Hewitt-Twamley.
Fíonna put her passion for performing on hold, devoting the next 2 decades to her greatest love, her young family. She returned to acting full time in 2014 and has not looked back. She was immediately invited to attend the prestigious ‘Factory’ Actors Studio in Dublin. Fíonna honed her skills under the guidance of many of Ireland’s finest tv/film directors and casting directors, including Maureen Hughes, John Carney, Shimmy Marcus and Kirsten Sheridan.
Fíonna was cast alongside Aiden Gillen in RTÉ’s Charlie 6 weeks after entering the Factory. Other tv and film credits include Blood with Adrian Dunbar, Damo and Ivor the Movie, RTÉ’s Clean Break and Dead Still, as well as Virgin Media’s Red Rock and BBC’s Ripper Street. Stage roles include Inhabitance, Juno and the Paycock, The Shadow of a Gunman. Fíonna’s dedication to her art and commitment to inhabiting her role has earned her the nickname ‘the chameleon’ from industry colleagues and casting directors.
Fionna was recognised by her peers and nominated for an IFTA (Irish Film & Television Awards) in 2018 for her powerful performance in the multi-award-winning film Cardboard Gangsters. On the night of the IFTA ceremony, Fíonna was contacted by Derry Playwright Brian Foster and was quickly cast in his One Woman Play, soon to be renamed Myra’s Story.
Fíonna has shared Myra with audiences across Ireland and Britain since 2018, delivering a beautifully crafted story whilst showcasing incredible versatility playing more than a dozen characters on stage. Myra’s Story continues to receive widespread acclaim from new audiences. Fíonna’s portrayal of Myra was rewarded with the Best Actor accolade at the world-renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2021.
Fíonna’s immersion into Myra’s life extends to actively engaging with and raising funds for local homeless charities and addiction services in each city the play visits.
In 2022, Fíonna starred in Wednesday’s Child, nominated at the 2023 Oscars in the Short Film category.
Fíonna lives in Dublin with her partner, 3 children, and 2 granddaughters.
