Raymond Keane

Raymond Keane is a founding member of multi award-winning Barabbas Theatre Company. www.barabbas.ie

Raymond’s work as clown, actor, writer and director has appeared in almost every Irish theatre and on international stages from the back of a truck to the Brooklyn Academy of Music to London, Edinburgh, Wales, France, Denmark, Africa (Zimbabwe and Zambia), Japan, New Zealand and USA (New York, Washington, Kansas, Chicago, New Hampshire, Colorado and Connecticut).

 

He has collaborated with Sarah Jane Scaife (Company SJ) on her Beckett in the City project, which continues to tour nationally and internationally. So far, this work has been presented at Dublin Theatre Festival, Dublin Fringe Festival, Cork Midsummer Festival, Enniskillen, Paris Beckett Festivals, Barbican Beckett Festival London, River to River Festival New York and Tokyo.

Most recent performances include Beckett’s short novel Company directed by Sarah Jane Scaife at Dublin Theatre Festival 2018; Ulysses at the Abbey Theatre 2018 & 2019; Theatre Lovett / Irish National Opera / Abbey Theatre’s production of Hansel & Gretel, winner Best Opera and nominated Best Lighting Design (Sarah Jane Shiels), Irish Times Theatre Awards (ITTA) 2022;  Laethanta Sona (Happy Days) by Samuel Beckett with Bríd Ní Neachtain as Winnie under the direction of Sarah Jane Scaife – Company SJ performed on Inis Óir and at Dublin Theatre Festival in October 2021 (Bríd won Best Actress ITTA and Ger Clancy was nominated for Best Design).

Most recent directing includes the award-winning How to Square a Circle at Dublin Fringe Festival and subsequent national tour; More Rope by Billy Roche for Abbey Theatre’s 14 Voices from the Bloodied Field; NASC for Infinite Pants Co.; The Long Christmas Dinner, Abbey/Peacock Stage – ITTA 2021 nominated in five categories Best Director, Best Production, Best Ensemble, Best Supporting Actor (Máire Ní Ghráinne) and winner of Best Lighting Design (Stephen Dodd) and No Magic Pill by Christian O’Reilly at Dublin Theatre Festival 2022

He is a performer in John Gerard’s Mirrored Pavilion – Galway International Arts Festival.

Film and television appearances include Pajo’s Junkbox, The Whole Shebang, Scratch Saturday, Fair City, The Boy from Mercury, St. Patrick, Bloom, Sweety Barrett, The Lonely Battle of Thomas Reid, Procession, The Island of the Saints, To the Moon and Game of Thrones.

He teaches Theatre of Clown at Gaiety School of Acting Dublin, The Lir Academy of Dramatic Arts Dublin and The Samuel Beckett School of Dramatic Arts Trinity College Dublin, where he is Adjunct Teaching Fellow. He regularly mentors theatre artists.
