Derbhle Crotty

Derbhle Crotty is an Ian Charleson and Irish Times Theatre Award-winning actor. Amongst her earliest jobs at the Abbey Theatre was a role in Marina Carr’s breakthrough play The Mai in 1994, and later the lead in Carr’s Portia Coughlan for Garry Hynes. Most recently, she played Mrs Ramsay in The Everyman and Hatch Theatre Company’s co-production of To the Lighthouse, written by Virginia Woolf and adapted by Marina Carr, which premiered digitally as part of Cork Midsummer Festival 2021.

Derbhle has worked extensively in London and has appeared in many National Theatre and RSC productions.

In 2008 she was awarded the Irish Times Theatre Awards for best actress in the Abbey production of The Three Sisters, where she played the part of Masha. She has recently starred in Druid’s The Cherry Orchard.

Her film roles have included The Bright Side (2021); Notes on a Scandal (2006) and Inside I’m Dancing (2004).
