Michael Sands

Michael Sands has worked extensively in the UK, Ireland, USA and West End. He is best known to audiences for The Young Offenders as Jock’s dad. Most recently he played in Philadelphia Here I Come! (Cork Opera House, 2021), as well as Rooster in Annie (Cork Opera House) and Tony in Wet Paint (The Everyman).

Favourites roles include Les Miserables as Grantaire/Inspector Javert with Colm Wilkinson, Camelot as Sir Lionel (Covent Garden London), Perchik in Fiddler on the Roof  (London Palladium), Riverdance (World Tour), Hugo / Alex in Aspects of Love (Olympia), Mr Myers in Fame (Bord Gais Theatre), Achilles in Golden Apple (Barbican, London), Harry / Sky in Guys and Dolls (Leicester Haymarket / Tour), Teddy in The Full Monty (Olympia), Sean Og / Goose in All Star Wars (National Tour), Lord Ulveigh in The Promise (Helix, Dublin), as well as Valentin in Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Capt Von Trapp in  Sound of Music, Sweeney in Sweeney Todd, R.F. in Singing in the Rain and Peter in Michael Collins – all at Cork Opera House.

Concerts include Les Miserables – Cardiff Castle (BBC), Riverdance – Live from Geneva (DVD), RTÉ Proms Lerner and Loewe – RDS Dublin, The World Goes Round – National Concert Hall Dublin, Hey Mr Producer for Cameron Mackintosh (USA).

Pantomime in the UK includes Prince Danilo in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in Bristol, Oxford, Nottingham and London.

Recent plays include A Great Arrangement at the Gaiety Theatre Dublin where he received critical acclaim for playing Eamon DeValera, and Love, Peace and Robbery as Cast and Juno and the Paycock as Captain Boyle, both at The Everyman.

Film work includes Shock, Home Truths, Selfology and Maria.

He is delighted to be back again with his great friends for another year in The Everyman Panto.
