Johnny McCarthy hails from Cork and lectures in classical flute and traditional music at MTU Cork School of Music. He is widely known throughout Ireland, Europe and the US as a highly accomplished musician in both classical and Irish traditional music. From a traditional Irish music beginning, he then explored the world of classical music and studied at the Cork School of Music. He later studied at the Conservatorium und Music Hochschüle in Zürich, Switzerland under professor of flute, Jean Poulain.
Johnny has featured as both soloist and as a member of many ensembles on prominent platforms. He has performed as soloist with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and has recorded with such artists as Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, The Four Star Trio, John Gibson, Antonio Breschi, John Spillane and many others. He is a regular contributor to many TV presentations and his compositions have been performed and recorded by a wide range of artists.
