Matthew O’Brien is a native of Slane Co. Meath.
He has just finished filming Conversations with Friends, the much-anticipated TV series adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel of the same name, and appears in Mopar and Subotica’s thriller Red Election, which wrapped filming in Dublin earlier this year.
Matthew plays James Rafferty in RTÉ Television’s soap drama Fair City. Other screen credits include Lochlainn McKenna’s award-winning short film Pockets, the lead role of Ed Smith in Kevin Henry’s feature film Soulsmith, the BBC television drama Ripper Street 4, Oscar-winning Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos’s feature film The Lobster, Techno Wolf’s IFB Signatures Short Blight directed by Brian Deane who also directed Matthew (‘Fitch’) in his award-winning short Volkswagon Joe.
Theatre credits include Hamlet, King Lear and Macbeth in the Mill Theatre Dundrum, directed by Geoff O’Keefe.
