Danny O’ Mahony is an award-winning Irish Traditional Musician, Educator and Broadcaster from Ballyduff in Co. Kerry.
An All-Ireland champion accordionist at Junior and Senior levels, he has toured extensively for the last 33 years in Ireland, Europe, US and Australia. In 2011, he released his debut album In Retrospect, followed by As It Happened and Shannon’s Lovely Vale, and was awarded Top Button Accordionist (US, IRE, EU, UK) by the Irish Music Association in America. He produced and presented Trip to the Cottage for Radio Kerry for 16 years. Recent performances include Clifden Arts Festival, Catskills, New York and Siamsa Tíre, Tralee. He was appointed Traditional Artist in Residence at UCC 2020.
He is currently developing a theatre piece with Brokentalkers, which takes inspiration from Danny’s personal relationship with his craft and his dedication to the preservation of traditional music whilst simultaneously grappling with the weight of tradition, the capriciousness of memory and the artist’s need to express himself, due to be staged in 2023.
