Niamh O’Sullivan

Irish mezzo-soprano Niamh O’Sullivan, praised for her “bewitchingly beautiful, dark vibrant voice”, studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin under Veronica Dunne. She continued her studies by joining the Opera Studio at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich from 2016 to 2018. Niamh recently made her Royal Opera House Covent Garden debut singing the role of Wellgunde in the new production of Wagner’s Das Rheingold, directed by Barrie Kosky and conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano.

In the 2023/24 season, Niamh returns to Opernhaus Zürich to sing the roles of Wellgunde in both Götterdämmerung and Das Rheingold, and Mercédès in Carmen; she also returns to the Festival d’Aix en Provence to sing Ninetta in Verdi’s Les Vêpres Siciliennes and will sing the title role of Carmen for Buxton International Festival this summer. For 2023–25, Niamh has been named as a BBC New Generation Artist, during which time she will have opportunities to debut at major recital venues, and partake in several recording projects.
