Pat Kiernan

Pat Kiernan was Artistic Director of Corcadorca Theatre Company, which he founded in 1991.

Pat has directed over forty productions for the company, with work staged in every theatre in Cork as well as non-theatre venues such as A Clockwork Orange (Sir Henry’s), A Christmas Carol (Cork City Gaol) and medEia (The Vertigo Suite County Hall).

Outdoor productions include The Trial of Jesus on St. Patrick’s Hill, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest in Fitzgerald’s park and Woyzeck at Haulbowline Naval Base. Disco Pigs, directed by Pat, won an array of awards and toured internationally for two years. Other work includes The Oginski Polonaise at the Gate Theatre, London, Road at the Samuel Beckett Centre, Dublin, When I was God and The Boy Soldier for Red Kettle, Stone Mad for The Everyman and Done up like a Kipper at the Peacock.

In 2005 Pat programmed the three shows for Corcadorca’s ‘Relocation’ as well as directing The Merchant of Venice, for which he received a nomination for Best Director in The Irish Times Theatre Awards. Woyzeck in 2007 was also nominated for Best Production and Best Lighting. In 2011 he directed Request Programme, which premiered at the Elysian in Cork before touring to festivals nationally. He also directed two co-productions with Cork Opera House: The Winter’s Tale (2011) and Romeo & Juliet (2012). In 2013 he directed Pat McCabe’s The Big Yum Yum at The Half Moon Theatre, Cork. In recent years Pat directed two Enda Walsh plays, How These Desperate Men Talk, staged at Graepel Metal Perforation factory for the Kinsale Arts Festival in 2014 and Gentrification, staged at the old Cork Savings Bank on Lapps Quay in 2015. He received a nomination for Best Director in the Irish Times Theatre Awards for the latter. In 2016 he directed Sacrifice at Easter, a collaboration with writer Pat McCabe and composer Mel Mercier, at Elizabeth Fort in Barrack Street. In 2022, he directed An Evening with Reggie, Pat Fitzpatrick’s (aka Reggie from the Blackrock Road) for The Everyman, Cork.
