Renowned Cork musician John O’Brien curated a new genre-defying concert series, Music of…
This sonic voyage, in three acts, began with Music of… Sadness and Comfort featuring star mezzo-soprano Niamh O’Sullivan and the spellbinding flute and fiddle playing of Johnny McCarthy. Music of… Love and Heartache was next with West End musical sensation Molly Lynch and the enchanting harpist Anne-Marie Papin Labazordiere. The soulful Karen Underwood, backed by virtuosic drummer Davie Ryan, brought the series to its grand finale with Music of… Faith and Doubt.
Each evening boasted the brilliant Ora Quartet, featuring Siún Milne and Molly O’Shea (violins), Ali Comerford (viola) and Yseult Cooper Stockdale (cello) in Music of… Sadness and Comfort and Music of… Love and Heartache, and Jennifer Murphy and Molly O’Shea (violins), Ali Comerford (viola) and Aoife Burke (cello) in Music of… Faith and Doubt.
Audiences experienced a captivating journey through the depths of human experience, from Schubert to Sondheim, with a healthy dollop of soul and some surprises along the way. Each concert showcased the solo singer’s natural style whilst also stepping outside their comfort zone to explore intriguing musical combinations.
